The Glass Blowing Shop fabricates, repairs and modifies all types of glassware to meet the needs of individual researchers. We can work from a blueprint, rough sketch or even a hand-drawn design you send us by mail, fax or email attachment. Just explain your wishes and we can come up with the best suitable glassware to meet your needs.

We produce micro-distillation apparatus, mercury diffusion pumps, and everything in between. Standard glass items made in the shop include Klett flasks, impingers, condensers, three-neck flasks, distillation units, water aspirators, quartz reduction and combustion tubes, filter crucibles and large-diameter columns. One-of-a-kind items have included mercury and oil diffusion pumps, tissue baths, and membrane feeders.

Our shop also can install, repair or modify vacuum line systems for on-campus labs. We maintain a wide range of items in inventory, which enable our glass blowers to provide fast turnaround time. We stock Pyrex tubing ranging from 2 mm to 178 mm, quartz tubing from 2 mm to 60 mm, and Vycor tubing from 9 mm to 64 mm in diameter, and other sizes can be ordered.

Established in 1960, the Glass Blowing Shop provides services to UGA departments on- and off-campus, local companies, other universities and federal agencies.
